Rebecca Dee - theatre crafts

About

Rebecca is a craftsperson with extensive experience in creature costumes, mask-building, armor, jewelry, draping, dressmaking/alterations, fabric painting and millinery.

Rebecca moved to New York after college to pursue an MFA in Costume Design at NYU.  Based on her apprenticeship experience with the Santa Fe Opera Company, Rebecca was given a job as junior draper in the design department costume shop, while working toward her degree. Shortly after graduation, she took a job in a crafts studio, and discovered the deep love for craft work that has guided her career since.

Rebecca was fortunate in her early career to work in excellent shops that helped her hone a range of skills. She was a milliner and dyer for Lynne Mackey Studio, first hand for Killer Studio, first hand at Parsons-Meares, and crafter for Den Design, Izquierdo Studio, and a variety of freelance projects. Then she worked for several years as Head of Crafts at the Metropolitan Opera.

For six years Rebecca worked with Randy Carfagno Productions, a puppet and specialty costume/props studio, as craftsperson, painter, and head draper. She provided millinery and other wardrobe services for Anastasia. More recently, she was a stitcher for New York City Ballet and American Ballet Theatre, and worked as a dresser for the latter. Rebecca was also Shop Manager and Head Draper for an RWS touring production of Xanadu.

Currently, Rebecca is (re)building costume pieces for Martha Graham Dance Company, and looking forward to resuming her work as a jewelry maker, milliner, and stitcher for Moulin Rouge!, Mrs. Doubtfire, and Company, when Broadway recovers from the pandemic.

Rebecca is a member of Theatrical Wardrobe Union Local 764.
